photographing with friends and kids
Usually photography is a solo effort. Sometimes
it helps to have another pair of eyes looking around.
It was a flat light day at Mono Lake and I was looking
toward the lake and not seeing a worthy landscape in the
dull light. My daughter was snapping in the other direction.
I took a look at her shots. Wow. That was a cool silhouette
with an unusual cloud pattern. I hadn't noticed.
Maybe going out with other photographers would be a good
idea occasionally.

Control depth of field to put those people out of
focus. Shooting with a wide aperture (low f number)
means that the people are less identifiable which
makes the photo more likely to be used as a stock
photo without their permission.

photographing ordinary stuff
had all these red balls. So to kill time while my
daughter shopped, I made about 35 shots of the
balls. Changed lenses, got down on the ground
changed angles. You have to do your photographic
push-ups to stay in shape. There are subjects everywhere
for the photographer who takes time to observe.
